Pathsala: Residents in Assam’s Bajali have urged the authorities to prioritise the installation of CCTV cameras across Pathsala instead of focusing on large LED display screens, amid growing concerns over theft and public safety.
The demand comes in the wake of recent theft and robbery incidents in the town, which have renewed concerns over the need for stronger surveillance infrastructure.
The issue gained attention after a recent advertisement published in a newspaper regarding the installation of large LED display boards in the town.
While residents acknowledged that LED screens can be used for public information and awareness activities, they questioned whether CCTV surveillance should receive greater priority at the present time.
Residents said CCTV cameras are urgently needed at key locations, including markets, busy roads, parking areas, entry and exit points, and other vulnerable areas.
They also called for existing CCTV cameras, wherever installed, to be regularly checked, maintained and monitored to ensure that they remain functional when needed.
According to residents, a well-connected CCTV network could help monitor suspicious activities, track vehicles and provide important evidence during investigations into thefts and other crimes.
The demand is not against the use of LED display screens, residents said, but is about civic priorities and the need to strengthen public security infrastructure.
Residents have urged the Pathsala Municipal Board and other concerned authorities to expand CCTV coverage across the town and establish an effective monitoring system.
With recent theft cases raising security concerns, residents say CCTV cameras should be given greater priority as essential public safety infrastructure in Pathsala.
