Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has strongly condemned the alleged killing of four civilians, including two women, in separate armed attacks reported in Manipur’s Tamenglong and Noney districts on September 13.

In a statement, the Council warned that continued attacks by armed groups could push the state towards a wider conflict if such activities continue without accountability.

The KZC said the Kuki-Zo community has endured significant bloodshed and called for equal justice and accountability in all cases involving civilian casualties, irrespective of community.

The Council also appealed to the Government of India to intervene immediately, warning that failure to contain armed groups could lead to a broader escalation of violence in Manipur.

According to the KZC, the attacks were allegedly carried out by Naga armed groups, with the Council accusing cadres of the NSCN-IM of operating alongside or through the ZUF-K and Naga Village Guards.

The Council said the attacks occurred at two locations on September 13.

At L. Tollen village, Seineh Singsit and his wife, Lhingzangai Singsit, were allegedly shot dead. Their six-year-old son survived but sustained a serious gunshot wound to his hand, according to the KZC.

At Longpi village, the Council alleged that pregnant woman Julie Gangte and Thangvel Roel Gangte were killed. Another person, identified as Nei Esther, reportedly suffered critical injuries.

The Council also accused Naga political and civil society leaders of adopting what it described as “double standards” in responding to civilian killings.

The KZC claimed that while Naga leaders have actively sought justice for the deaths of six members of their community, they have remained silent over the alleged killings of 22 Kuki-Zo civilians, including women and children, since January 2026.

The Council further criticised what it described as a continued reluctance among sections of Naga leadership to engage in meaningful dialogue and reconciliation.

The KZC called for a uniform approach to accountability and justice, stressing that civilian lives must be protected without discrimination.
