Imphal: Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam have condemned the recent attacks on civilians in the state and appealed for peace and restraint.
Konthoujam said he had directed the concerned authorities to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and take action according to law.
Four civilians from the Kuki-Zo community were killed in two separate attacks in Tamenglong and Noney districts on Sunday, September 13. A six-year-old boy was injured and remains hospitalised, while a woman has been reported missing.
In a statement, Kipgen condemned the attacks on civilians, including women and children. She expressed condolences over the deaths of Seineh Singsit, Lhingjangai Singsit, Thangvel Gangte and Julie Gangte.
Kipgen also prayed for the recovery of Hemminsang Singsit, the young son of Seineh and Lhingjangai Singsit, who was injured in the violence.
She appealed to all communities to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. Kipgen said the incidents should not lead to further retaliatory violence and urged people to work towards restoring peace.
Separately, Konthoujam expressed grief over the incident at Tollen Kuki village that killed Lhingjangai Singsit and left her husband and son injured in the firing.
Konthoujam offered condolences to the family and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He said violence against civilians was unacceptable.
He said those responsible would be pursued and held accountable under the law. Konthoujam also said the government would continue to protect the safety of citizens and work towards peace in Manipur.
