Guwahati: A 50-year-old havildar of the Assam Police was killed after being attacked and trampled by a wild elephant while patrolling the 17th Assam Police Battalion (APBN) camp in Goalpara district early on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 1 am at the camp in the Dakurbhita area, when Havildar Amzad Ali was conducting a patrol within the premises.

According to reports, a lone wild elephant entered the area and attacked Ali, causing him serious injuries.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The incident has raised concerns over the increasing instances of human-elephant encounters in areas bordering forest habitats in Goalpara and other parts of Assam.
