Guwahati: Two police personnel were killed in a shooting at the Gamerimura Police Outpost in Assam’s Kamrup district on Thursday, with another policeman allegedly opening fire, officials said.
The incident was reported between 4 am and 5 am at the outpost under Boko Police Station on the Assam-Meghalaya border. Both personnel were hit by rounds fired from an AK-type service rifle and later died.
The deceased have been identified as Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora. Bora was in charge of the Gamerimura outpost, while Ali served as a Havildar.
Police constable Chiranjib Choudhury, who is attached to the 29th Assam Police Battalion, has been accused of opening fire.
Officials said the reason for the shooting has not yet been determined.
Police officials reached the outpost, and an investigation began.
Fazrul Ali was a resident of Sarboga. Indrajit Bora was from Changshari in Kamrup district. Chiranjib Choudhury belongs to Dhubri district.
