Agartala: Seven organisations representing surrendered militants on Saturday called off their 72-hour strike on the second day after holding talks with the West Tripura district administration.
The organisations had launched the agitation to press for an 11-point charter of demands concerning the rehabilitation of former militants.
West Tripura District Magistrate Vishal Kumar said the administration had discussed the demands with representatives of all the organisations and reached an understanding on most of the issues.
He said the administration had agreed to address the demands that could be considered under the existing rules and assured the organisations that their genuine grievances would be resolved in a time-bound manner.
Following the discussions, leaders of the organisations agreed to withdraw the strike, Kumar said.
He also acknowledged the role of Prasenjit Debbarma, who had been leading the agitation.
The development came soon after Chief Minister Manik Saha returned from New Delhi following his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Saha had said that officials had been instructed to take necessary steps to resolve the issues raised by the surrendered militants.
