Guwahati: The Bihar Education Department has proposed removing the word “fail” from the marksheets of students appearing for Class 10 and Class 12 examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board.

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said at a review meeting on Thursday that students who do not clear the examinations would instead have “Kaushal ke liye patra (eligible for skills)” mentioned on their marksheets.

Tiwari said the rules would be amended to introduce the change, after which the Bihar School Examination Board would issue the necessary instructions.

He said examination results should not be seen as a measure of a student’s talent and that the change was intended to protect students’ morale.

The department therefore plans to avoid terms such as “fail” on certificates.

The Education Department is also planning month-long special classes for students appearing for the Matric supplementary examination.

An official said the classes would provide additional preparation and improve students’ chances of clearing the examination.
