Pasighat: Five-member band Kongkura:yo from Arunachal Pradesh released its latest Adi music video, “Toma Dulamang,” on Wednesday, presenting a modern rendition of the Adi Donyi-Polo hymn of the same name written by Tapang Jamoh nearly four decades ago.
The song’s lyrics convey a message that when the call of Solung is heard, the Adi people will not remain idle. By blending traditional themes with contemporary rock-fusion music, the band seeks to connect younger audiences with the language, culture and ancestral heritage of the Adi community.
The music video was formally launched by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing in the presence of Ma Ke chairperson Joya Tasung Moyong, Adi Agom Kebang President Bodong Yirang, General Secretary Tajing Taki and other dignitaries at Hotel Airport View near Pasighat Airport.
The band’s name, Kongkura:yo, pays homage to the echoes of the ancestors, a spirit also reflected in its music. The group aims to promote the Adi language and culture among younger generations by developing an Adi rock-fusion genre inspired by traditional songs and melodies.
Addressing the gathering, Joya Tasung Moyong spoke about the importance of such creative projects in protecting and promoting the cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
She also recalled the establishment of her NGO, Ma Ke, and its mission to assist people struggling with drug abuse, affected family members, survivors of abuse and women in need of support. She said music could help preserve a culture of unity and love while providing hope and guidance to those seeking it.
Describing the project as a small but significant step towards cultural preservation in the age of modernity, Minister Ojing Tasing praised the band for presenting ancestral traditions in a musical language that appeals to the younger generation.
He said such initiatives enable young people to engage with contemporary music while learning about their roots, legacy and cultural heritage.
