Dibrugarh: Security forces apprehended a suspected NSCN (R) cadre from Khonsa in Arunachal Pradeshโ€™s Tirap district on Monday evening and recovered a rifle, ammunition, cash and other materials, officials said.

The apprehended cadre was identified as Tuwang Lowang, 34, alias Jeetu Saikia, a self-styled 2nd Lieutenant of the NSCN (R).

Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Tirap Police, 44 Assam Rifles and 36 Battalion CRPF conducted an operation in the 2 Mile area and adjoining parts of Khonsa town. The operation was led by Inspector Kapseng Techi, officer-in-charge of Khonsa police station.

Security forces recovered a 7.62 mm rifle, a magazine, 21 live rounds, SIM cards, cash and other materials from Lowang, officials said.

He was apprehended following a brief physical confrontation after he allegedly resisted the operation.

A case has been registered at Khonsa police station under Case No. 41/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The latest apprehension comes a day after Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police apprehended a suspected NSCN (IM) cadre from the New Paniduria area of Tirap district.

The individual was identified as Wangchan Wangsu, 31, a self-styled private of the NSCN (IM).

The operations come amid intensified security operations against insurgent groups in eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
