Digboi: Digboi Police have intensified their crackdown on drugs, illicit liquor and other illegal activities, with the latest operation leading to the arrest of two persons and the recovery of 29.01 grams of suspected heroin.

The arrests were made at Tingrai Point along the Margherita-Tinsukia road. The accused have been identified as Santanu Pait and Chetia Panging, both residents of Dhemaji.

Police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS-22-H-5559 and allegedly recovered two soap boxes containing an orange-coloured crystalline substance suspected to be heroin. The vehicle, three mobile phones and a Samsung tablet were also seized during the operation.

The latest seizure is part of Digboi Police’s continuing drive against narcotics and other unlawful activities in the area.

Inspector Pranjal Chetia of Digboi Police said operations against drug trafficking and other illegal activities would continue.

โ€œOur efforts will continue. We will keep taking action against drugs and other illegal activities. We have also destroyed illicit country-made liquor in and around the Digboi Police jurisdiction, and such action will continue,โ€ Chetia said.

He added that both accused would be produced before a court along with the seized evidence.

Digboi Police have also launched operations against locations allegedly involved in the manufacture and storage of illicit country-made liquor as part of efforts to curb its sale and distribution within the police jurisdiction.

The recovery at Tingrai Point is considered significant due to its location along the busy route connecting the Margherita region with Tinsukia, where regular checking and surveillance are crucial to preventing the movement of illegal substances.

Police are now investigating the source of the suspected heroin, its intended destination and whether the two arrested persons had links to a wider drug trafficking network.

Officials said the ongoing operations were intended to send a strong message to those involved in drug trafficking, illicit liquor and other illegal activities that strict action would continue.

The drive against narcotics, illicit liquor and related unlawful activities will continue across the Digboi Police jurisdiction, police said.
