Guwahati: AssamSAT, described by the Assam government as Indiaโ€™s first state-led Earth Observation satellite system, has entered a crucial stage of implementation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on National Space Day.

The state government had earlier invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) to select an implementation partner under the DBLOTT model โ€” Design, Build, Launch, Operate, Train and Transfer.

Sarma said the initiative had received interest from private space-sector companies across India. Proposals from prospective partners are being evaluated by dedicated committees, with the government moving towards the final stage of partner selection.

The Chief Minister said AssamSAT would enable the state to access Earth observation data for developmental and administrative requirements.

He said the initiative would mark a shift in Assamโ€™s approach to space technology, from being primarily a user of satellite data to participating in the space-tech ecosystem.

The satellite system is expected to support evidence-based governance by providing Earth observation data for various administrative and development needs, according to Sarma.
