Guwahati: A fake social media account has allegedly been created in the name of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Kunki Chowdhury to collect donations for flood-affected people, raising concerns over the misuse of her identity.
The Instagram account, named “For Kunki Chowdhury,” has allegedly been appealing to people to contribute towards helping children affected by the floods. A Google Pay QR code was also reportedly shared through the account to facilitate donations.
The account reportedly carried an appeal stating that those willing to extend a helping hand to children could contact the person operating the account or scan the QR code and contribute according to their ability.
A person identified as Ariful Haque has allegedly been collecting money through the account, according to the allegations.

Reacting to the matter, Kunki Chowdhury said she had come to know about the fake account and categorically denied any association with it.
“I have come to know that a fake Instagram account has been created in my name and that money is being sought from the public in the name of helping flood-affected people. I want to make it absolutely clear that I have no connection whatsoever with this account or with any such fundraising appeal,” Chowdhury said.
Calling the alleged misuse of her identity a serious matter, she appealed to the public not to make any payments through the account or the QR code being circulated.
“This is a serious misuse of my name and identity. I appeal to everyone not to send money or make any payment to the account or QR code being circulated in my name. People should verify the authenticity of any such appeal before making donations,” she said.
Chowdhury also urged the authorities to investigate the matter and take legal action against those responsible.
“I also urge the concerned authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action against those responsible for creating the fake account and allegedly collecting money by misusing my name,” she said.
She further cautioned that such incidents could not only deceive members of the public but also undermine genuine efforts to support people affected by floods.
