Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday called the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the state’s apex women’s organisation, and other voluntary groups “key pillars of society”, highlighting their role in shaping younger generations and strengthening social institutions.
Lalduhoma made the remarks while laying the foundation stone for a new MHIP building at Treasury Square in Aizawl.
He said voluntary organisations such as MHIP serve as important institutions by addressing social concerns and guiding young people in areas that often extend beyond the reach of government agencies.
Given their role, the Chief Minister said such organisations should have proper and dignified infrastructure to carry out their activities effectively.
He also urged MHIP to strengthen its financial independence so that it can sustain its programmes and maintain its infrastructure with greater stability.
Lalduhoma described MHIP as a major non-governmental organisation working for the welfare of women and children and assured that the state government would continue supporting its initiatives.
He also highlighted MHIP’s contribution to the enactment of the Mizo Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance of Property Act, 2014. The organisation was awarded the Nari Shakti Puruskar by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2016 for its contribution to women’s welfare.
The Chief Minister further spoke about the recently introduced Financial Advisory System, under which departmental secretaries have been given greater financial authority to speed up the implementation of development projects.
He called for closer coordination among stakeholders and said earlier projects funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme should be completed and settled before fresh funds are taken up.
MHIP is among Mizoram’s largest voluntary organisations and is the state’s leading women’s body working for the welfare and empowerment of women and children.
