Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam showed further improvement on Sunday, August 16, with the number of affected people declining to around 51,000, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Five districts-Golaghat, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Dhemaji and Jorhat continued to remain affected, with floodwaters covering 14 revenue circles and 170 villages.

No fresh flood-related deaths were reported in the 24 hours preceding the bulletin, keeping the death toll from this yearโ€™s floods at 104.

Nagaon remained the worst-affected district, with 32,132 people impacted, followed by Jorhat with 7,426 and Sivasagar with 5,676. The overall number of affected people fell from around 62,000 recorded on Saturday, while the number of affected districts remained unchanged.

Fourteen relief camps were operational across the affected areas, providing shelter to 1,731 displaced people. Eight relief distribution centres were also functioning to provide essential assistance.

The floods have also submerged 3,628.17 hectares of cropland and affected 18,474 livestock, according to ASDMA.

Several roads and other infrastructure facilities have sustained damage in different parts of the state, with restoration efforts continuing as the water situation improves.
