Aizawl: Retired IAS officer K. Lalrinzuali on Thursday took the oath as a member of the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC), a day after the state government announced a review of its public recruitment system amid calls for reforms in the commission.
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh administered the oath to Lalrinzuali at a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Lok Bhavan.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Speaker Lalbiakzama, Home Minister K. Sapdanga, other ministers, Leader of the Opposition Lalchhandama Ralte and senior government officials were present at the ceremony.
Lalrinzuali retired from the Indian Administrative Service on July 31 after more than three decades in Mizoram’s administration. She joined the Mizoram Civil Service in 1992 and was promoted to the IAS in 2019.
Before her retirement, she served as Commissioner and Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department as well as the Power and Electricity Department.
During her career, Lalrinzuali also served as Deputy Commissioner of Lunglei and held senior administrative positions in education, tourism, horticulture, land resources and disaster management.
Her appointment to the MPSC comes at a time when the state government is reviewing its public recruitment framework. On Wednesday, the government constituted a committee to examine recruitment procedures and processes following a five-day agitation by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl demanding reforms in the commission.
The government said the review would focus on identifying systemic bottlenecks and procedural shortcomings, with the aim of making public recruitment more transparent and efficient.
