Guwahati: Women in Assam can now file complaints with the Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) through a mobile app launched by the commission on Tuesday.
Women and Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog inaugurated the application at the ASCW office. The platform is intended to make it easier for women, especially those dealing with emergencies or other difficulties, to seek help from the commission.
At the launch, Neog asked officials to keep the application updated and undertake wider awareness campaigns so that women across the state know about the service. She said greater awareness would help women use the platform when they need assistance.
ASCW Chairperson Angoorlata Deka said the app can be downloaded through the Google Play Store and is also available for Apple devices using iOS. Women can use the platform to submit complaints from anywhere in Assam instead of travelling to the commission’s office.
Deka said the commission will review and verify grievances submitted through the application before forwarding them for necessary departmental action.
The facility is expected to be particularly useful for women who live far from the commission’s office.
The complaint against Bihpuria MLA Bhupen Bora is also pending with the ASCW. Bora could not attend an earlier proceeding because of his electoral engagements and is expected to appear at a later stage.
The commission will take up the matter again when it is scheduled for another hearing.
