Guwahati: The Centre has officially incorporated 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh into the Survey of India’s maps, including strategic mountain passes, a lake, villages and a war memorial.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said on Friday that the names were standardised and included in official maps following consultations with the Arunachal Pradesh government.
The exercise is aimed at bringing uniformity to the naming of geographical locations, improving their identification and strengthening their representation in official government records and public maps.
Among the prominent features added to the updated map are the strategic mountain passes Dzo La, Riza La and Thag La, along with Sambho Sarovar lake and the Sher-e-Thapa Memorial.
The revised map also includes several villages and localities, including Longju, Maja, Bisa, Jaswant Garh, Jairampur, Sunpura, Kamlang Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Padma, Jyotinagar, Pritnagar and Teritnagar.
According to the ministry, the updated names have been incorporated into the Survey of India’s official records, making them part of the country’s authoritative cartographic system.
Officials said the initiative would help improve the accurate identification of locations and support administrative planning and developmental activities. It is also expected to increase public awareness of important geographical features across Arunachal Pradesh.
