Imphal: Manipur Police recovered a stolen vehicle and several mobile phones, while security forces arrested suspected militant cadres in separate operations carried out across the state, officials said on Saturday.
Manipur Police intercepted a stolen Maruti Jimny (AR-01T-5409) at the Senapati Police Drop Gate near the Nagaland border on July 31 after receiving inputs from Khuzama Police Station. The driver and the vehicle were handed over to a Khuzama Police team for further legal action.
In a separate operation, Senapati district police recovered five stolen mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners at Senapati Police Station on Friday.
Police said a newly introduced tracking facility has helped recover and return around 10 to 15 lost mobile phones over the past three months.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested an active extortionist linked to the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Ningthoujam Nanao Meitei alias Lanthongngakpa (41), a resident of Khurai Konsam Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
In another operation, security forces arrested two active PREPAK cadres from the general area near Border Pillars 80–81 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. They were identified as Takhelbam Yaiphaba (25) and Khumukcham Tondonba (22).
Police also arrested an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party People’s War Group (KCP PWG), identified as Khunthoklemba Oinam alias Lemba (30), a resident of Singjamei Oinam Thingel in Imphal West district.
He was arrested from his locality for his alleged involvement in placing a hand grenade at a residence in Yumnam Leikai, Singjamei, on July 28.
