Imphal: Manipur Police, assisted by central paramilitary forces, arrested six people, including four women, during a series of coordinated counter-insurgency and anti-drug operations conducted across the state on Wednesday. The operations, carried out at multiple locations, also resulted in the seizure of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other incriminating materials, according to the police evening bulletin.
In the first operation, police arrested two women Ruhida Begum (46) and Rohana Begum (18) – in the Andro police station area of Imphal East district for their alleged involvement in the illegal procurement, transportation and sale of weapons. A hand grenade was recovered from their possession, which investigators said was being taken to Shanta Bazar for sale to a prospective buyer.
In another operation, police apprehended Aditya Dhakal (25), a resident of Panikheti Irang Part-II in Kangpokpi district, from Charhazare near Motbung. He was wanted in connection with a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act at Senapati police station.
Security forces also arrested Luwangthem Ronita Devi alias Toro (24), an alleged active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba), from Khurai Heikhrumakhong under Porompat police station in Imphal East district.
In Bishnupur district, police arrested Oinam Nikarson Singh (27), who was allegedly involved in extortion activities and linked to the People’s United Youth Alliance (PUYA), an unregistered youth organisation. He was apprehended from his residence at Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai under Nambol police station. During the operation, police seized three receipt booklets and documents containing personal details of employees of the state Health Department.
In a separate operation, police arrested Moirangthem Sanjoy alias Aya (33), a resident of Khagempalli Pankha Nganapi Thong Mamang in Imphal West district, near the North AOC area under Imphal police station. Police said he was wanted in connection with an earlier incident involving the public use of a firearm at North AOC. A .45 NPB pistol, one magazine and five live rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
The coordinated operations are part of the ongoing security drive to curb insurgency, extortion, illegal arms trafficking and drug-related offences in the state, police said.
