Dibrugarh: Assam’s Dibrugarh district administration has supplied relief materials, rescue teams, boats and heavy machinery to the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo while continuing flood response operations within its own district.
Officials said more than 3,33,624 litres of packaged drinking water and 1,95,852 biscuit packets have been sent to the two districts.
Relief packets containing rice, pulses, salt, mustard oil and other essential items, sufficient for 45,000 people for seven days, have also been prepared and dispatched.
The administration has additionally supplied 10,000 milk packets, 7,000 mustard oil packets, 15 quintals of chira to Sivasagar and 68 quintals of pumpkins to Charaideo.
For transporting relief supplies, the district administration deployed 96 light goods vehicles and 58 trucks. Around 36 labourers were also sent to Sivasagar to assist with loading and unloading operations.
As part of the rescue effort, seven country boats have been deployed in Sivasagar. Two boats with six SDRF personnel have been deployed in Charaideo, while two boats with seven SDRF personnel have been deployed in Sivasagar.
Two NDRF teams, comprising 30 personnel and four boats each, have also been deployed in Sivasagar for evacuation and rescue operations.
Following directions from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the district administration, on July 25, supplied 50 special relief kits containing rice, masur dal, salt and mustard oil. The kits were air-dropped by the Indian Air Force in flood-affected areas of Nazira and Sivasagar.
The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Dibrugarh, supplied 34,000 NaDCC water purification tablets, 15 bags of bleaching powder and awareness leaflets to PHED authorities in Charaideo to support drinking water safety and hygiene.
The Public Works Department (PWD) also deployed four Poclain excavators, six JCB machines and 13 dumpers to Nazira for restoration and emergency works.
The district administration said it will continue providing assistance to neighbouring districts while managing the flood situation in Dibrugarh.
