Imphal: The Nagaland Tribe Hoho Co-ordination Committee on Tuesday expressed solidarity with the Naga community in Manipur during a meeting with the United Naga Council (UNC) in Senapati and condemned the killing of six Nagas, describing it as a “wake-up call for all.”
The joint meeting was held at the SM Sha Complex in Senapati and attended by leaders of the apex Naga organisations from Nagaland and Manipur.
Committee convenor Thejao Vihienuo said the delegation had travelled to Manipur to convey the support of the Naga people in Nagaland amid the ongoing crisis in the state.
During the meeting, Vihienuo referred to historical documents, including a representation submitted to the Prime Minister in 1956, and alleged that Kuki groups had earlier expressed willingness to fight the Nagas on behalf of the Government of India. He also said the conflict was unlikely to end soon.
UNC president Ng Lorho stressed the need for a united Naga platform to pursue justice for the six slain Nagas.
He also reiterated that the economic blockade on Kuki-inhabited areas in Manipur would continue until the council’s demands are met. The demands include justice for the six victims and the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, which the UNC has already submitted to Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
