Kamjong reviewed Vibrant Villages Programme-II implementation and strengthened coordination to combat drugs effectively.

Imphal: A coordination meeting on the development of Kamjong district, one of India’s last border districts along the Myanmar frontier, was held on Monday at the Camp Office of the Deputy Commissioner at the 2nd Manipur Rifles Complex.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner H.L. Jain, Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), and district-level officials.

Addressing the officials, Kashung underscored the need to improve the livelihoods of people in border villages through the effective implementation of government welfare schemes. He instructed officials to make regular visits to villages and maintain direct interaction with local communities to better understand their needs.

Reviewing the implementation of the Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II), the Deputy Commissioner directed all line departments to prepare project proposals in consultation with local residents and the respective SDOs. He also stressed that every proposal should include a robust operation and maintenance plan to ensure the long-term sustainability of the projects.

The Vibrant Villages Programme-II is a central government initiative aimed at the holistic development of strategically important villages located along India’s international land borders by improving infrastructure, connectivity and livelihood opportunities. In Kamjong district, the scheme covers the blocks of Kamjong, Kasom Khullen and Sahamphung.

Later in the day, Kashung also chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee.

The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Tholu Rocky, Divisional Forest Officer Nepolean Rongmei, along with representatives from various government departments and security agencies.

During the review, officials assessed the measures taken by different departments to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse in the district. The Deputy Commissioner called for stronger coordination among law enforcement agencies, security forces and line departments to intensify efforts against the illegal drug trade and eliminate the drug menace in Kamjong.
