North Lakhimpur: A dumper truck driver was killed after a large portion of a hill collapsed onto his vehicle at Banderdewa in Arunachal Pradesh, near the Assam-Arunachal border, on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Biju Kutum (45) of Milanjyoti village in Pathali Pahar under Narayanpur Police Station in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, died on the spot.
According to reports, Kutum was driving a dumper truck bearing registration number AR01 P 4685 to an earth-cutting site near NH-15 in Banderdewa when a massive quantity of red soil and debris suddenly fell onto the vehicle, crushing it.
The incident occurred on the Arunachal Pradesh side of the inter-state boundary.
The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the risks associated with hill-cutting activities in the Banderdewa area, where landslides have frequently disrupted traffic along NH-15 and raised environmental concerns.
