Guwahati: Air India Express has launched ‘Voices of the Land: Tales of Northeast’, a six-part documentary series exploring the heritage, traditions and oral histories of indigenous communities across Northeast India.

The series, produced in collaboration with Edstead and Dentsu Sports and Entertainment, premiered on JioHotstar on July 3.

Hosted by actor Adarsh Gourav, the documentary features the Angami of Nagaland, the Biate and Mising communities of Assam, the Khasi of Meghalaya and the Sherdukpen of Arunachal Pradesh. Through music, folklore, craftsmanship and everyday life, the series documents the cultural traditions and lived experiences of these communities.

The documentary is part of Air India Express’ ‘Tales of India’ initiative, under which the airline has undertaken cultural and heritage projects through literature, art, festivals and storytelling.

The airline said its fleet liveries also feature traditional art forms and weaving patterns from across the Northeast, including Tsรผngkotepsรผ from Nagaland, Akyobi, Saphee Lanphee and Moirang Phee from Manipur, Gamosa and Jaapi from Assam, Khneng from Meghalaya and Puanchei from Mizoram.

Air India Express Chief Marketing Officer Siddhartha Butalia said the documentary seeks to highlight the region’s indigenous heritage and its relationship with the natural environment.

Actor Adarsh Gourav said filming the series offered insights into the traditional knowledge systems of indigenous communities and their long-standing relationship with nature.

Simantini Ghosh, National Head of Dentsu Sports and Entertainment India, said the series was conceived to bring lesser-known indigenous stories to a wider audience through the airline’s growing presence in the region.

Edstead founder Shekhar Bhattacharjee said the documentary aimed to showcase voices and traditions that have received limited mainstream attention.

Air India Express currently operates more than 290 weekly flights from Agartala, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Guwahati and Imphal. The airline recently announced its first direct international services from the Northeast, with flights from Guwahati to Abu Dhabi and Dubai scheduled to commence in August.
