Dibrugarh: In a major anti-encroachment operation, Assam’s Dibrugarh District Administration on Wednesday carried out an eviction drive to remove illegally occupied structures from government land behind the Dibrugarh Gurudwara along the banks of the Brahmaputra River.

The operation targeted a settlement where several families had been residing for years after allegedly encroaching on government land.

Officials said the drive was undertaken as part of the district administrationโ€™s ongoing initiative to reclaim public land from illegal occupation.

Earthmovers were deployed to demolish houses and other temporary structures built within the encroached area.

Revenue officials, accompanied by police personnel, supervised the operation to ensure the eviction was carried out in an orderly manner.

The eviction drive was conducted under the supervision of Samujjwal Borah, Circle Officer of the Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle.

A strong contingent of Dibrugarh Police remained deployed throughout the operation to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.

Despite the large-scale demolition, the eviction exercise remained peaceful, with no reports of violence or major resistance from the occupants.

Authorities ensured adequate security arrangements before commencing the operation.

Officials reiterated that the administration will continue taking action against illegal encroachments on government land across the district in accordance with the law.

The reclaimed land is expected to remain under government possession, while further measures may be initiated to prevent fresh encroachments in the area.

The district administration has intensified anti-encroachment drives in recent months as part of its broader effort to protect government land, improve public infrastructure, and preserve environmentally sensitive areas along the Brahmaputra River.
