Guwahati: Floods continued to batter parts of Assam on Tuesday, leaving over 46,000 people affected across six districts as rising rivers inundated thousands of hectares of farmland, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its latest flood report.

According to the ASDMA, 46,938 people have been impacted in 221 villages spread across 10 revenue circles in Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts. Dhemaji remains the hardest-hit district, with 45,841 residents affected by the flooding.

The state also recorded its first flood-related fatality of the season after a woman reportedly drowned in floodwaters at Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district.

Floodwaters have submerged 3,809.8 hectares of agricultural land, causing widespread damage to standing crops. The disaster management authority further reported that the Brahmaputra and Disang rivers were flowing above the danger mark, while roads and public infrastructure have sustained damage in several affected areas.

Relief operations are underway, with four relief camps currently accommodating more than 450 displaced people. Additionally, six relief distribution centres have been established to provide food and other essential supplies to flood-hit families.

The floods have also taken a toll on livestock, affecting more than 88,000 animals across the state.

Authorities are continuing rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures as high water levels persist and the flood situation remains a cause for concern in several districts.
