Imphal: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has formally written to the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), seeking a fair, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the abduction and gruesome murder of six civilians from Konsakhul village.
The case was officially transferred to the NIA by the Manipur government. The six victims were among 18 Naga civilians, including a child, who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13.
While 12 hostages were eventually released, the dismembered and mutilated remains of the six men were recovered on June 10.
The NIA has been conducting forensic and DNA examinations at the JNIMS Mortuary in Imphal to formally ascertain the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
In its submission to the central agency, the NWU demanded the immediate apprehension of all individuals involved in the abduction, unlawful confinement, murder, and concealment of evidence.
Specifically, the union has called for the arrest of the absconding chief of Leilon Vaiphei village, more than 30 women residents allegedly involved in the hostage-taking, and a state police personnel, Thanggilian Vaiphei.
According to the NWU, the policeman’s involvement was confirmed by women who had been held hostage and were subsequently released.
Furthermore, the union has urged investigators to thoroughly examine the role of the KNF(P), a militant group operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, in the planning and execution of the crime.
Describing the incident as a “profound human tragedy,” the NWU emphasized that a transparent and diligent pursuit of the truth is critical to upholding justice and restoring public confidence in the rule of law.
The NIA continues to work alongside state police and forensic experts to build a strong case against the perpetrators.
