Guwahati: The Budget Session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly is set to convene from July 6 to July 31, 2026, with the state government scheduled to table its Budget for the 2026-27 financial year on July 10.

As per the tentative schedule issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat, proceedings will begin on July 6 with customary business, including obituary references, laying of reports, introduction of official bills, and consideration of supplementary demands for grants.

A key focus of the session will be the presentation of the Annual Financial Statement, through which the government will outline its revenue projections, expenditure plans, and policy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. Following the Budget presentation, the Assembly will hold a three-day debate from July 13 to July 15, providing members an opportunity to scrutinise allocations, discuss developmental initiatives, and examine the government’s economic agenda.

The House will then break for a brief recess from July 16 to July 21. During this period, Departmentally Related Standing Committees (DRSCs) will review and analyse the demands for grants submitted by various departments.

Legislative proceedings will resume on July 22 with detailed discussions on departmental expenditure proposals and voting on demands for grants. On July 23, the Assembly is expected to complete voting on the remaining demands and take up the Assam Appropriation Bill, 2026, which seeks legislative approval for government spending during the financial year.

The latter half of the session will feature government business, private members’ resolutions, and consideration of private members’ bills, alongside deliberations on issues concerning public welfare and governance.

With major fiscal decisions and legislative matters scheduled for discussion, the Budget Session is expected to play a crucial role in determining Assam‘s development priorities, economic direction, and governance framework for the year ahead.
