Imphal: A traffic police personnel was injured in a knife attack while on duty in Imphal West district on Tuesday, police said, adding that the accused was later arrested.
The victim, identified as Salam Tarun (46) of Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, was posted at Shamu Makhong under the jurisdiction of City Police Station when he was allegedly attacked from behind by an assailant.
Tarun sustained injuries in the attack and was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital for treatment. Officials said his condition was stable.
Following the incident, police launched a search operation and arrested the accused, identified as Maibam Umakanta (20), a native of Nongpok Sekmai who was residing in a rented house at Wahengbam Leikai in Imphal West district.
Police also recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances and motive behind the assault.
