Guwahati: Delhi Police has filed a 500-page chargesheet against seven accused in the murder of 54-year-old Manipuri musician and teacher Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was beaten to death after objecting to noise outside his home in southeast Delhiโs Kilokari village on September 7.
The chargesheet, filed before a Saket court, lists 30 witnesses and invokes provisions relating to murder, criminal conspiracy and house-trespass. Seven adults and a juvenile were arrested in connection with the case.
Singh had lived in Kilokari for more than two decades. He was attacked by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff after he objected to them shouting and drinking outside his apartment.
According to the investigation, eight men followed Singh upstairs and assaulted him outside his apartment in front of his son before fleeing. Singhโs son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
A police source said the accused allegedly told investigators that they had assaulted Singh with fists and blows to “teach him a lesson” for objecting to noise outside his residence, but did not expect the assault to turn fatal.
Singh had also complained on some occasions to the owner of a nearby dhaba about noise caused by people gathering there.
