Imphal: Security forces arrested an alleged insurgent operative from Assam and subsequently recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from two locations in Manipur’s Imphal East district, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, Meitankeishangbam Jiban Meitei alias Katungcha (43), a resident of Sabungkhok Makha Leikai in Imphal East district, was recently arrested from his hideout in Khatkhati, Assam, during a coordinated operation by central and state security forces.

Based on information obtained during the investigation, security forces launched follow-up operations in the Pangei and Yairipok areas of Imphal East district on Monday.

The operations led to the recovery of three INSAS rifles, one Ex-Calibre rifle, two SLR rifles, two .303 rifles, one 9 mm pistol, one 7.65 mm pistol, 33 rounds of ammunition of various calibres and 10 magazines.

Meanwhile, police said they continued enforcement drives against motor vehicle violations across the state. Between June 8 and June 14, authorities issued 80 challans, collecting fines amounting to Rs 79,500. Tinted films were also removed from 21 vehicles between June 7 and June 13.
