Guwahati: The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a strong contingent for the upcoming Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia, a key international competition scheduled from June 17 to 21.
The tournament will provide Indian boxers with a crucial platform to sharpen their skills and gain valuable competitive experience as preparations gather pace for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Among the prominent names in the squad are Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Asian Championships gold medallist Preeti Pawar, both expected to spearhead India’s campaign in the women’s division.
Recognised as one of Europe’s most established boxing tournaments, the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem has enjoyed a rich legacy spanning more than 50 years. This year’s edition will be conducted under World Boxing regulations as a European Boxing Gold Tournament, featuring competition in 20 weight categories across men’s and women’s events.
BFI President Ajay Singh said participation in high-quality international tournaments remains essential for the development of Indian boxers. He noted that competing against top athletes from different countries helps improve performance levels, build confidence, and prepare the team for future global assignments.
The women’s lineup includes Sakshi (51kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya (60kg), Parveen (65kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg). However, World No. 1 Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary will miss the event as they continue rehabilitation from injuries.
India’s men’s squad features Jadumani Singh (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Aditya Pratap (65kg), Sumit (70kg), Ankush (80kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg) and Narender (+90kg).
The Czech tournament forms part of India‘s broader strategy to ensure its boxers receive consistent exposure to elite international competition ahead of a busy season that includes several major championships and qualification events.
