One youth met his watery grave in Diphalu Pathar area under Bokakhat sub-division of Golaghat district on Tuesday.

According to police, the deceased, who was a local, drowned after falling into the swollen waters of river Bihdiya in Diphalu Pathar area of Bokakhat sub-division.

The deceased has been identified as Sutu Majhi.

He had gone missing since the morning on Monday after he went out to bring their cows on the bank of river Bihdiya,

As Sutu Majhi did not return home, his family members started searching for him.

The locals suspected that Sutu might have gone missing after drowning in swollen waters of river Bihdiya.

The locals informed the Bokakhat police about the missing of Sutu Majhi and also about their suspicion.

The Bokakhat Police keeping the locals in confidence and on the basis of suspicion started an operation in river Bihdiya with the help of divers of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel.

Following an operation which lasted for three hours, the operating team was able to fish out the body of Sunu Majhi from river Bihdiya.

After being fished out, the body has been sent to the Golaghat Civil Hospital by the Bokakhat Police for conducting post-mortem.

It may be mentioned that it is yet to be known how Sutu Majhi fell into the river water.

However, police said they have not noticed any mark of injury.

“Everything will be clear when we receive the port-mortem report,” said a Bokakhat sub-divisional police officer.
