Imphal: The BJP-led NDA government, headed by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has come under heavy criticism from opposition parties and veteran politicians.
Speaking to the media in Imphal on Friday, Communist Party of India (Manipur State Council) spokesperson Rajkumar Amusana stated that the Yumnam Khemchand-led government is a “puppet government” controlled by a “shadow government” comprising central leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
He alleged that despite the relentless activities of anti-social elements, including the recent killings of several individuals and the maiming of hostages, the central government has remained a mute spectator. Not a single abductor or perpetrator involved in the hostage killings has been arrested so far, despite various security measures being in place.
According to Amusana, the law-and-order situation in the volatile border state has deteriorated to such an extent that the Chief Minister has been unable to visit the Kuki-Zo-dominated Churachandpur district since assuming office in the first week of February this year.
Furthermore, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, the first woman to hold the post in the state and a member of the Kuki-Zo community, has also been unable to visit Imphal despite having heavy security.
Meanwhile, veteran politician and former Manipur cabinet minister Okram Joy Singh also told reporters that the manner in which the central government is handling the present crisis clearly indicates that the state has effectively been divided de jure into three parts, for the Meiteis, the Nagas, and the Kukis.
He added that the situation is particularly unfortunate given that the state is facing multiple crises, including the recent killing of six abducted Naga people.
He further alleged that BJP leaders at the Centre are more interested in the land of Manipur than in the welfare and betterment of its indigenous people.
