Imphal: Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and explosives and dismantled two militant camps during coordinated anti-insurgency operations in Churachandpur and Senapati districts on Thursday.
According to official sources, joint teams conducted the operations in sensitive areas, leading to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices (IED). No arrests were made.
In Churachandpur district, security forces busted a militant camp in the Hengkapkot area under Churachandpur police station limits. From the site, they recovered three single-barrel rifles, one .303 rifle, one pompi, four rocket shells, a cylindrical IED weighing around 500 grams, a conical IED weighing about 4 kg, four bulletproof jackets, two helmets, fired cartridges of AK-47 and 7.62 mm calibre, and a radio set charger.
In a separate operation in Senapati district, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons from the MaremaiโHengbung hill ranges under Senapati police station. The seizure included .22 rifles, a .303 rifle, MP5 and AK-47 rifles with magazines, four locally made bolt-action rifles, a locally made shotgun, pistols of different calibres, 79 live rounds of ammunition and 13 empty cartridges.
Officials said the recovered items were handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings as investigations continue.
