Guwahati: Security forces in Manipurโ€™s Imphal East district arrested two active members of the banned Revolutionary Peopleโ€™s Front/Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) on Monday, June 1, in separate operations linked to alleged extortion activities.

Officials said the first arrest was made at Top Awang Leikai under Porompat Police Station limits, where Maibam Arun Singh alias Uru (49), a resident of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai near the Community Hall, was taken into custody.

In another coordinated action, personnel detained Thangjam Surankumar Singh alias Achouba alias Rajesh (30) from Top Makha Leikai, also within the Porompat Police Station area. He is a resident of Pourabi Awang Leikai.

Authorities stated that both men are active operatives of the RPF/PLA and were allegedly involved in extortion-related operations in the region.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their activities and to trace possible links with other individuals or networks engaged in similar unlawful operations in the area.
