Aizawl: Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Saturday announced that the Centre is ready to release Rs. 6 crore for Mizoram to boost the power sector, a party leader said.

The Minister made the announcement during a meeting with state BJP leaders in Aizawl, according to BJP Mizoram unit media convener Johny Lalthanpuia.

The interaction was chaired by BJP Mizoram president and MLA K. Beichhua, who raised a number of issues concerning the state, including pending central funds, implementation of housing schemes, and challenges faced by contractual employees under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojanaโ€“National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).

According to Lalthanpuia, Beichhua urged the Union Minister to expedite the release of pending funds under the Power Department.

In response, Khattar informed him that the Centre has approved Rs. 6 crore for Mizoram.

The Minister assured that the funds would be released within a week once the Mizoram government deposits its mandatory state matching share of Rs. 60 lakh.

Responding to concerns about the financial problems faced by contractual employees under DAY-NULM, Khattar said that NULM 2.0 is slated for launch within the next one or two months and promised to personally look into the grievances of the contractual employees.

The BJP leaders also highlighted concerns regarding housing assistance schemes, alleging that many beneficiaries who had already received the first instalment were still waiting for the second, Lalthanpuia said.

The BJP leaders further claimed that several applicants who met the eligibility criteria are yet to receive housing assistance and that BJP members faced hurdles from the state government in accessing housing grants, he said.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Union Minister instructed state BJP leaders to submit a formal written representation of their grievances directly to his office for further action, Lalthanpuia added.
