Imphal: Security forces arrested five individuals, including active members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) and the Manipur Revolutionary Army (MRA), during a series of coordinated operations carried out across two districts in the last 36 hours. A significant cache of arms, ammunition and other materials was also recovered.
According to police on Monday, the first operation was conducted in the Nghathal area under Churachandpur Police Station, where two alleged UKNA cadres – Thongpi Guite (33) and Shokhomang Baite (40) were taken into custody. Security personnel seized one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, 31 live rounds of assorted ammunition, two hand grenades and two mobile phones from their possession.
In another operation in Churachandpur district, security forces arrested Jehova Raja Dutta (24) from his residence at Edenthar Rengkai village. During the search, authorities recovered an INSAS rifle along with four magazines, 36 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, a camouflage-pattern bulletproof vest and a mobile phone.
Meanwhile, in the valley region, two active cadres of the MRA were apprehended on Wangkhei Ayangpalli Road in Imphal East district. The arrested individuals were identified as Ningthoujam Vicky Singh alias Munal (30), a resident of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai in Imphal East and Ningthoujam Ishworchandra Singh alias Loiya alias Thawailakpa (24), originally from Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai in Imphal West and currently residing at Langjing Makha Leikai in Imphal West.
Security forces recovered three mobile phones, an Aadhaar card and a two-wheeler from the two accused. Police stated that all arrested individuals, along with the seized items, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.
