Imphal: Manipur Police arrested four alleged smugglers, including a Myanmar national, and seized soap cases containing brown sugar (a derivative of heroin) and ganja during joint operations in the Churachandpur and Imphal East districts on Wednesday.

Officials said on Thursday that during the first operation, Manipur Police arrested two individuals, including a Myanmar national, at Singngat along NH-102B under Singngat Police Station in Churachandpur district.

The arrested persons were identified as Khupsiankhai Vualnam (31) of Phaimual Village, Myanmar, and Doukhanlal Thangsing (34) of Suangdai Village, Churachandpur.

Authorities seized one Kenbo bike (made in China) and 55 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 2.127 kg from their possession.

In the second operation, police arrested two individuals while conducting routine frisking and checking at the Irilbung Police Station check gate in Imphal East district. The two suspects were identified as Yambem Sudhir Singh alias Sadananda (20) of Lourembam Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district, and Thongam Bishal Singh alias Amujao (26) of Taobungkhok Makha Leikai, Taobungkhok, in Imphal West district.

Police recovered 3.3 kg of raw ganja, one Honda Activa (registration no. MN06SH7426), one Stunner motorcycle (registration no. MN01Y6799), and two mobile phones from their possession.

Police have registered two cases, and the arrested individuals, along with the seized items, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further legal proceedings.
