Imphal: A joint security team arrested an alleged insurgent recruiter, a vehicle lifter and two cadres of a banned outfit in separate operations across Manipurโ€™s valley districts, police said on Thursday.

The operations were carried out by Manipur Policeโ€™s Anti-Insurgency Squad (AIS) along with central security forces based on intelligence inputs regarding the movement of anti-social elements.

In the first operation, the team arrested an active cadre recruiter of the proscribed Peopleโ€™s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. The arrested person was identified as Laishram Surjit Meitei alias Nanao (29), a resident of Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district who was presently staying at Matai Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district. One mobile phone was seized from his possession.

In a separate operation linked to a vehicle theft case registered at Lamphel Police Station, the joint team arrested Bogimayum Imaran Khan (32) of Irong Chesaba in Thoubal district from the Anjuman Healing Centre at Lilong Dam. Police said he was involved in the theft of a vehicle from the RIMS hospital campus.

The security team also arrested two senior cadres of the banned Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from different locations under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. Sorokhaibam Priyochand Singh alias Sajao (39) of Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai was arrested near RIMS, while Moirangthem Naobi Singh (47) of Uripok Takhellambam Leikai was arrested from his residence.

Police said two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were seized from the two KYKL cadres. The arrested persons and seized items remain in police custody for further legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law.
