Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) has been recognised as a Platinum Sustainable Campus under the Bharat Environment Program โ€“ A Bharat Sustainability Campus Mission 2026.

The recognition was conferred during Earth Week celebrations conducted from April 22 to 29 by the Research Heights Foundation in collaboration with the Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI).

According to the university, the award was presented in recognition of its efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility through a series of awareness programmes and eco-friendly initiatives conducted on campus.

As part of the Earth Week activities, the university organised plantation drives, zero-plastic campaigns, sustainability awareness sessions, outreach programmes and student engagement initiatives aimed at encouraging environmentally sustainable practices.

University authorities said the recognition reflects the institutionโ€™s continued focus on environmental conservation, green campus development and community awareness initiatives.

he university administration expressed gratitude to the Research Heights Foundation and EPTRI for the recognition and acknowledged the contribution of NSS volunteers and organising committees in implementing the sustainability initiatives.
