Guwahati: Meghalaya is set to hold the North East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition (NEIINFRA) on June 11 and 12, bringing together government officials, investors, financial institutions and business leaders to explore opportunities in infrastructure growth, connectivity and regional investment.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the event at a programme in New Delhi and said that the state has seen strong economic expansion in recent years.
He stated that Meghalayaโs economy has doubled over the past five years, while capital investment has risen nearly four times since 2018.
According to him, steady growth over the last few years has boosted investor confidence, placing Meghalaya among the fastest-growing economies in the country. He also referred to the stateโs industrial promotion policy, noting that it offers substantial incentives to encourage private sector investment.
Sangma also spoke about the stateโs growing presence in entrepreneurship and technology. He said Meghalaya has developed a vibrant startup ecosystem, with the first IT park already operating at full capacity. Interest in the upcoming second IT park has also come from both domestic and international companies.
Sanjay Jaju, Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, said the Union government will continue to support infrastructure-led development and efforts to strengthen connectivity in the region. He also acknowledged the Meghalaya governmentโs role in driving recent progress.
Key discussions at the summit are likely to revolve around transport systems, city infrastructure, digital linkages and investment collaboration, as northeastern states look to develop the region into a growing centre for trade and economic activity.
