Guwahati: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-K (Niki) has voiced concern over the recent deaths reported in Southern Nagaland under the United Naga Council (UNC) area and called for united efforts to protect Naga people and their ancestral lands.
In a press statement, the organisation described the incidents as โdeeply concerning and disturbingโ and said mere condemnation was not enough, urging Nagas to remain united amid the ongoing tensions.
The group alleged that certain external forces were trying to dilute Naga political aspirations by portraying the issue as a communal conflict and a law-and-order problem. It appealed to the Naga community not to lose sight of what it termed their long-standing political goals.
Referring to the historical tensions between the Naga and Kuki communities, the statement urged both sides to carefully consider the wider impact and consequences of the continuing conflict.
Highlighting the significance of land, identity and culture, the NSCN-K (Niki) said Nagas must stay committed to safeguarding their people and traditional territories.
The organisation further stated that the restraint and silence shown by the Naga people should not be viewed as weakness, while reaffirming its position on protecting Naga interests.
It also appealed to Nagas across all regions South, Central, North and East to put aside internal divisions and collectively respond to the present challenges.
