Guwahati: Athena Behavioral Health has announced the launch of the largest integrated private psychiatric hospital in Northeast India, marking its expansion to five hospitals across the country.
The launch coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month and comes at a time when the region is witnessing increasing concern over mental health challenges. Citing the National Mental Health Survey (NMHS), the organisation noted that nearly 8% of Assam’s population-around one in 12 people faces mental health morbidity.
Studies in the region have also indicated rising cases of depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and suicide-related distress, along with a shortage of structured psychiatric and de-addiction facilities.
Founded in 2021 with its first hospital in Gurgaon, Athena Behavioral Health has expanded into a multi-city network focused on psychiatric and addiction treatment services.
Speaking on the expansion, Founder and CEO Dr Shradha Malik said the Guwahati facility reflects the organisation’s aim to decentralise quality mental healthcare in India. She said the group has grown from a single centre to five hospitals while maintaining a focus on structured, ethical, and outcome-based care.
The new facility will offer integrated treatment for psychiatric disorders and substance use conditions under one roof. Services will include psychiatric consultation, psychotherapy, detoxification support, rehabilitation and long-term recovery planning.
It will also provide care for conditions such as alcohol and drug addiction, depression, anxiety, trauma and co-occurring mental health disorders, supported by 24/7 clinical supervision and multidisciplinary treatment systems.
