Imphal: An individual from Rajasthan was arrested for fraud involving impersonation of officials of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, highlighting a high-value impersonation racket.

The accused, Jitendra Meena (30), son of late Bajranga Lal Meena and a native of Jeerota, Ward No. 2, Rajasthan, was arrested following a case registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the RIMS authorities.

The complaint alleged the existence of an organised racket involved in impersonation, fraud, and cheating in the Common Recruitment Examination 2024 conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi.

An Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) submitted before the court that Jitendra Meena had applied for the recruitment examination in 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe category.

The examination was conducted in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on February 25, 2025. Based on the marks secured in the examination, he was appointed to the post of multi-tasking staff at RIMS on August 18, 2025.

As part of the post-selection formalities, facial, iris, palm, and biometric verification of candidates was conducted at RIMS on March 13, 2026.

However, during the verification process, it was found that the fingerprints of Jitendra Meena did not match the biometric data captured at the examination centre in Bhubaneswar during the examination.

Jitendra Meena was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, on May 6.

During the court proceedings, the APP stated that the accused had allegedly secured selection and subsequent appointment fraudulently by using another person to appear for the examination on his behalf or by manipulating the identity verification mechanism.

It was through such illegal acts that the accused allegedly secured employment at RIMS Imphal.

Police stated that the arrest was made on May 5 from the main gate of the RIMS administration block, and the accused was remanded to police custody till May 11.
