Guwahati: The Department of Pathology at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has earned recognition for its strong research performance at the 7th South Asian Academy of Cytopathology and Histopathology Conference held in Paro, Bhutan, from April 21 to 23, 2026.

Biswajit Dey, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, secured the First Prize in the oral paper presentation category for his study titled โ€œClinicopathological profile and molecular classification of muscle invasive bladder cancer based on a simplified panel of immunohistochemistry.โ€

Naveen Kumar, Assistant Professor in the same department, won the Second Prize in the same category for his presentation on โ€œMolecular profiling and clinicopathological association of endometrial carcinomas presenting at a tertiary care institute of Northeast India.โ€

Both award-winning studies are part of ongoing research initiatives at NEIGRIHMS focusing on the molecular profiling of cancers prevalent in the region. The research highlights the increasing importance of molecular pathology and immunohistochemistry in improving cancer classification, prognosis, and personalized treatment approaches.

Congratulating the faculty, NEIGRIHMS Director Prof. Nalin Mehta said the achievements reflect the instituteโ€™s commitment to advancing cancer research, molecular studies, and academic excellence, strengthening its contribution to the South Asian scientific community.
