Guwahati: Assam Agriculture Minister and AGP chief Atul Bora has been re-elected from the Bokakhat constituency for a third consecutive term.

He defeated Raijor Dal candidate Hari Prasad Saikia by a margin of 60,537 votes.

Bora secured 80,987 votes, while Saikia polled 20,450.

Atul Bora has served in BJP-led governments under Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In the current cabinet, he has handled portfolios including agriculture, horticulture and food processing, along with animal husbandry and veterinary services.

He began his political journey as a member of the All Assam Studentsโ€™ Union during the anti-foreigners agitation movement.

Earlier, he represented Golaghat from 1996 to 2016 before shifting to Bokakhat, where he has now secured three consecutive victories since 2016.

Between 1996 and 2001, he held ministerial responsibility in the AGP government headed by Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.
