Drug peddlers arrested in Manipur

Imphal: A joint team of central and Manipur police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered several soap cases containing heroin in separate operations in the hills and valley districts on Friday, officials reported on Saturday.

In the first operation, a team of the Special Operation Team (SOT), Senapati; Maram Police Station; B/109 CRPF; and 16 Assam Rifles, under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Senapati, conducted random frisking and checking on NH-2 at Kabinam under Maram PS, Senapati.

A black Scorpio bearing registration number NL07CD 7347 was stopped for checking, and upon thorough inspection, 40 soap cases of suspected heroin were found concealed behind the rear seat of the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Manglenthang Tuboi (25), son of Thangjalun Tuboi of Saikul Bazar, Kangpokpi district. The seized items include one Scorpio (regd. no. NL07CD 7347), one Poco M2 Pro mobile phone with SIM card, and 40 soap cases of suspected heroin. A regular case has been registered at Maram PS for further investigation.

In a separate operation, the joint team arrested Md. Anish Khan (28) of Kairang Khumidok Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district, from Sajiwa Jail Road, Khabeisoi under Lamlai PS, Imphal East district, along with three soap cases of heroin powder weighing 154 grams.

Following further investigation, eight more soap cases of heroin powder were recovered from the house of Thounaojam Dilip Kumar of Nongmeibung Nambam Chuthek in the same district, who was also arrested.

Reports added that the arrested persons and seized materials are currently in the custody of the concerned police stations for further legal proceedings under relevant sections of law.
