Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU) hosted the second edition of the Lex Imperium Moot Court Competition on April 25, bringing together law students from across the Northeast in a day-long contest of advocacy and legal reasoning.
A total of 66 participants, forming 22 teams, took part in the competition, which concluded with JB Law College emerging as the winner. The team of Agastya Kashyap, Jishnu Pratim Kashyap and Pragyan Patowary secured the Best Team award, while Jishnu Pratim Kashyap was adjudged Best Mooter. NEF Law College finished as the runner-up.
The event was coordinated by Niju Moni Das, Dean of the Centre for Legal Studies at GCU. The opening ceremony was attended by university Chancellor Prof. Jayanta Deka, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kandarpa Das, and SSA president Jasoda Ranjan Das.

Delivering the keynote address, Kaushik Goswami, Judge of the Gauhati High Court, emphasised the importance of preparation and integrity in the legal profession. โMoot court is not just a competition; it is a rehearsal of life in law,โ he said, urging students to prioritise diligence and ethical conduct.
The preliminary rounds were judged by a panel comprising practising advocates of the Gauhati High Court and faculty members from law colleges across Assam. Six teams advanced to the semi-finals, with the competition culminating in a final round held at the universityโs moot court hall.
The final was adjudicated by senior advocate Khyad Uddin Ahmed and advocate Kishor Kalita of the Gauhati High Court.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony. Organisers said initiatives such as Lex Imperium aim to provide students with practical courtroom exposure and strengthen legal training in the region.
