Doomdooma: In an effort to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the indigenous Moran community, the All Moran Studentsโ Union (AMSU), Doomdooma unit, will organise โRati Bihu Udyapanโ2026โ on April 27 at the Doomdooma Town Field in Tinsukia district.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the gradual erosion of traditional practices due to rapid modernisation. Organisers said the programme aims to provide a platform for younger generations to reconnect with their roots while reinforcing a sense of community identity.
โRati Bihu reflects our heritage and values. This effort is to ensure its continuity for future generations,โ an organiser said.
The event is being jointly organised by the Assam Moran Sabha, Moran Jatiya Mahila Parishad, and the All Moran Art and Craft Development Centre, along with AMSUโs regional committees, with support from local residents.
The day-long programme will begin with flag hoisting at 10 a.m., followed by cultural events, release of a Smriti Grantha, and a felicitation ceremony. The main Rati Bihu performance is scheduled to commence at 9:30 pm featuring traditional music, dance and rituals associated with the Moran community.
Nobajyoti Moran, president of the AMSU Doomdooma organisational committee, said such initiatives play a vital role in preserving cultural identity and reconnecting the youth with their roots.
